Westley Richards Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun



W,Richards Shotgun I have a W.Richards 12 guage double barrel shotgun that was made about 1870 and was my grandfathers gun and has been in my family since approx 1905. It has W.Richards on both side gunn, I have found no other markings are numbers. It has the orginal stock on it, but is cracked. I would like to get it appraised. CASED PAIR OF WESTLEY RICHARDS BEST QUALITY HAMMERLESS DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUNS GI#: 101541276 One is a 10 gauge and the other is a 12 gauge. Both are very high quality and engraved.

Description: This is a W. Richards, English made (see proofs), 8 gauge, Damascus steel, double barreled (36') shotgun. It is definitely not a Westley Richards gun, but also was not one of the less expensive Belgium knock offs which were quite common in America around the turn of the 20th century. Would like to get as much information as possible about this odd shotgun, marked W. Richards, I'm not too familiar with English double guns. Shotgun is a side by side with side hammers, right barrel marked 17.2 with very small np. Left barrel marked E/LG, small marking under LG possibly a star or crown all in an oval; also has an S with another illegible star or crown, and a fancy cursive L similar to the symbol for pounds sterling. DD on barrel lug. Barrel rib marked laminated steel. Breech release lever swings out to open action, secondary metal lever releases barrel from receiver. These levers close to form the forearm, instead of traditional wood. Gun appears to be well made but far from any high end piece. Read another post about Belgium knockoffs and different manufacturers, just trying to find the true manufacturer and approximate age. Also have general photos I can post if needed, markings are too small to show.
